I inverse this up a bit to attempt to make it healthier. I used corn tortillas on the lesser instead of torilla fries, and layered the ingredients in 2 layers, similar a lasanga, hoping it would hold together better. I used ane layer of corn and another of flour torillas. I used a blend of cheese ("mexican style") and low fatty sour cream, added an boosted tin can of chili beans, and used basis turkey instead of beef. I also added a green pepper, an onion and green chilis and some more spices, as many reviewers said it was bland. Information technology wasn't spicy at all so next fourth dimension I'll add more to it. Information technology withal was pretty tasty and a hearty meal with a squeamish salad.

WOW! I doubled the recipe so I could experiment and the results were incredible! Changes from original recipe include: 1. Used 1/2 ground beef, 1/two sweet saugage, casing removed. 2. Used chipotle taco seasoning. 3. Used chili and black beans. 4. Used one can of diced tomatoes, salt gratis, and 1 tin can of Rotel. 5. Mixed cheddar with salsa jack cheese. 6. Added garlic and onion powder. seven. Forgot the black olives. This meal was so delicious. As others have mentioned, not the healthiest option, only for a pot luck or assemble where information technology will be 1 of many choices, information technology can't be beat!

This was fantastic. I normally would take used refried beans with a dish similar this, merely the chili beans were perfect! They added just the right flavor to it. Our whole family loved this recipe. We will definitely be eating it again. I don't call up I will vanquish the chips side by side time though. Instead I'm going to try leaving the chips whole. Some of the fries were a little tender, and nosotros all prefer crispy things to stay crispy. Nosotros still loved it though just equally it is.

This was mui bueno! I added light-green chilies, seasoned (tuckered) black beans, taco seasoning, Emeril's Southwest Essence, (drained) Mexicorn and a can of Rotel. Did not use the sour cream but I did layer the ingredients using split up white corn taco shells. Seemed a scrap soggy so adjacent time I'll double the thickness of the taco shells. Prissy paired with a salad tossed with southwestern ranch dressing. A practiced recipe to customize to your ain taste. I simply love these recipes where canned products end upwards being used then creatively y'all can't tell they're canned.
02/21/2006
This was fantabulous. I did alter a couple of things. Added garlic, used black beans instead of chili beans, added corn and chopped canned chilies. I besides mixed monterrey jack in with the cheddar. The salsa I used was Joe T. Garcia's, medium. My fiance loved this recipe and gave me the line, "It's a keeper!" The wonderful thing about this recipe is y'all tin can add anything. Desire it hot, add together hot salsa.

Non only is this an piece of cake dish, information technology is as well VERY good. Per other reviews, I used taco seasoning on the meat after information technology was browned. I also reduced the sour foam to 1 1/two cups and spread it thin over the meat (my boyfriend is not the biggest sour cream fan) and sprinkled appx one cup crushed chese flavored nacho fries (ie: doritos) earlier topping it all off with cheese. Very tasty! We have no leftovers! Thank you Andrea!

Easy and something unlike for a mexican meal. I did every bit others and used taco seasoning and blackness beans with the ground beef. In addition, I used Rotel tomatoes with green chilies and Mexicorn on summit of the sour cream.

This is an excellent recipe. I have been making it for years. When I explained my version to my family unit in United mexican states, they said: here we telephone call it "Pastel Azteca". In my version I utilise chopped white or red onions instead of dark-green. I sautée the meat with one of each of diced cherry-red and dark-green (sweet)peppers and taco spice mix, likewise I usually use a mixture of grated cheeses: mozarella and cheddar. A hint: if you apply whole fresh corn tortillas and layer them with the other ingredients, it turns out like a lasagna! Sometimes instead of adding the beans to the casserole I make frijoles refritos and serve them as a side dish. Forth with a green salad. And a bowl of extra salsa picante.

I can't really speak first hand on this recipe because I changed it then much but we like it plenty that I wanted to share what I did because this recipe has endless opportunities for growth! I actually did a philharmonic of this recipe and the "Mexican Casserole" recipe on this site with a chip of my own tastes every bit well. 1st I used 1lb. of hamburger and 1lb. of ground turkey browned with garlic and onion and put in taco seasoning and chili pulverization. then, I added a can of Rotel tomatoes, ranch beans and a few spoonfulls of foam cheese. in the pan, I put downwardly a layer of flour tortillas, a layer of the meat mixture, sour foam on top of that, with lots of shredded sharp cheddar and colby jack and repeated. Ended with a layer of cheese on top and baked to a cute golden dark-brown. All I tin see is YUMMO equally did my 8 yr one-time son and Husband. I fabricated homemade guacamole and served with chips so y'all can either it plainly of dip your fries in the goulash. I didn't want the chips to get soggy as others mentioned. This volition exist made a lot in my home from now on and I hope yous volition experiment with your favorite flavors! OOPS, P.S. I likewise added two cans of foam of mushroom soup into the mixture.

I have been making this for about 8 or 9 years. I take tried other Mexican/Taco casseroles, but this is always the one that I come dorsum to. My family unit, and everyone I accept made it for love information technology. I have changed a few things for our gustatory modality, but the bones recipe is the original. I use a little less crushed fries. I saute a couple of chopped jalapenos and 1/2 red onion in a little cooking oil before I brown the ground beef. I utilise hot salsa. I utilize a can of dark red kidney beans and a tin can of blackness beans. I use the blend of Kraft shredded Mexican cheese. I put the blackness olives in with the beans. Serve sour foam, guacamole, sliced green onions, chopped jalapenos, and chopped tomatoes equally garnish for the dish so anybody tin add to their liking. I think by cooking the beef/salsa mixture until the liquids from the salsa evaporate will cure the problem some have with the soggy fries. I also drain and rinse the beans. I accept never had a trouble with soggy chips. I apply a 9x13 drinking glass pyrex pan and put it on a rimmed cookie sheet for baking. This is a recipe that very easily adapts to personal tastes. Thanks the many expert meals and compliments I have received from serving this dish.

Our family unit loved this recipe! I made only a few changes to it. one) Used lean footing turkey and drained it afterwards browning, 2)Along with the chunky salsa, I added a packet of taco seasoning which gave information technology extra flavor and kick 3)used blackness beans because I didn't take chili beans four)I spread one 1/2 (non 3) cups of "broken" (not "crushed") tortilla chips in the lesser of the pan 5)Sprinkled one cup of shredded cheddar over top of the cleaved tortilla chips and topped that with the meat mixture iv)Spread just 1 cup of sour cream over the meat mixture 5)Substituted a can of drained diced tomatoes for the fresh ones vi)Topped the casserole with more broken tortilla chips, and topped that with the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar. I served it with extra sour cream and guacamole. FANTASTIC! My family wants this in our regular supper rotation. : ) A great recipe to "play" effectually with. Thanks for posting, Andrealf63

Practiced & quick recipe. Sheesh...peradventure it could be called Tex Mex Casserole to accomodate both regions. This would satisfy the critic who rated it one star because Mexicans don't iuse sour cream, cheese,. chili beans, etc. Get a LIFE!
12/xx/2010
This is excellent! I cooked it as written and served information technology to a grouping of teenagers. Everyone liked it.
11/07/2007
This is a perfect recipe to brand use of those tortilla chips left in the bottom of the bag! With the seasoning, it's too a great recipe for our family to use natural venison meat. You lot can cook it equally is, exit ingredients out when you're short or jazz it upward by cooking a couple cloves of minced garlic with the meat mixture and/or adding taco seasoning. When I've been out of salsa, I've also swapped it with a canned Mexican mix of diced tomoatoes and jalapenos with good results. I adopt using a Mexican mix of cheese instead of the cheddar. My husband prefers the layering in the following guild to continue the chips crisp: meat mixture, sour cream, veggie layers, crushed chips, and cheese.
03/27/2011
Had the students in my survival cooking class make this recipe. Most of them enjoyed it. I thought the tortilla chips, which lined the bottom, tasted too dry. Would probably add more basis beef likewise.
09/30/2010
Even Emily liked this!! I added taco seasoning to the meat while I browned information technology. I also used diced tomatoes in a tin and not fresh, only information technology will be much amend with fresh tomatoes chopped as called for.
02/26/2013
This is so... for my family, we loved it! Like many others I did brand a few changes. In lieu of chips I lined a 9 ten 13 dish with 2 layers of corn tortillas,. I heated/browned them over a gas flame, used a dozen. Equally others I added a can of drained corn. I as well added a package of Taco Seasoning to the ground beef. Drained off the excess fat, added the tuckered beans and corn and salsa. Afterward layering the beef mixture over the corn tortillas, I spread the sour foam and sprinkled the shredded cheese ( I used a combine mixture of sharp chedder and Jack). I than added the chopped tomates, chopped greenish onions and sliced black olives, I thought the presentation would be amend, so merely a layer of cheese. I was right! This was so bang-up because I normally have everthing in the business firm. This will also be good for a large group, I know I volition be making it for a church potluck!
07/18/2012
I brand this every few months with a couple of tweaks,2 lbs lean ground beef, I employ black beans{drained and rinsed} in the meat mixture along with a touch of hot salsa, can of chopped green chilis{undrained},some chili pulverisation and a package of taco seasoning{starts with "O",middle name"EL" last name "P"} yellow packet with ruby-red messages original} to give it a kick. As well I make a big 9x13 pan size with double layers so I spray the pan, spread out crushed corn tortilla chips, warmed up{makes easier to spread}refried beans, the meat mixture, the sour cream and toppings, Mexican shredded cheese, and so repeat the layers with corn chips and ending with the cheese{we omit the olives}. So I but double the corporeality of ingredients to make the double layers My family loves this recipe and we are and so grateful you lot shared it.
10/29/2002
Not simply is this an easy dish, it is also VERY practiced. Per other reviews, I used taco seasoning on the meat after it was browned. I as well reduced the sour cream to one 1/2 cups and spread information technology thin over the meat (my boyfriend is not the biggest sour cream fan) and sprinkled appx 1 cup crushed chese flavored nacho chips (ie: doritos) before topping it all off with cheese. Very tasty! We have no leftovers! Thanks Andrea!
x/02/2010
i beloved this...i just use blackness beans instead of chili beans, and sometimes add together corn.
05/ten/2012
This was delicious and so like shooting fish in a barrel! You can add and so much to information technology and make it even better but it's just a great meal for the family. I used other reviewers suggestions and did the taco seasoning and added green chilis and wow, it just made it have and so much more zing to information technology. Highly recommend this recipe!
02/27/2012
This was very tasty. I want to make one comment about some of the other reviews. Many complained that the tortillas were soft after baking. This is a casserole. If you desire crunchy chips, brand nachos. I used a double layer of whole chips (the dense Mexican style kind), and added the toppings as indicated in the recipe, after cooking the beefiness with onions and fajita seasoning. The chips actually resembled a soft corn tortilla after cooking. Thanks for the recipe!
08/29/2010
I followed others advice and changed a few things and it was great. Blackness beans instead of chili..used seize with teeth size fries without crushing..didn't cook the sour cream just layered information technology ontop after cooking and cooling and so sprinkled more cheese on top of that..used iii/4 cup fresh love apple instead of 1/2...added taco seasoning/water to meat mixture along with salsa and tin can of rotel with green chili peppers when simmering ...and lastly used shredded mexican cheese (mixed bag from walmart)....I cooked for 30min like recipe said but believe next time I would cook just xv-20..
08/29/2011
This is FANTASTIC!!! Honestly, when I saw the great reviews I thought, "Really? It looks to simple to be that delicious!" just my gosh is it!!! Yum! I left out the olives completely just because I don't similar them and added 1/two packet of taco seasoning to the meat equally it was browning. I only used 2 cups of crushed tortilla fries and that was plenty. Employ the chili beans; no, it doesn't seem 'Mexican-y' only information technology adds a keen flavour. I doubled the green onion considering I honey it and information technology really tastes so good in this dish. I used a mix of cheddar and taco blend cheese on height. The only alter I volition be making for next fourth dimension is to leave out the sour cream. When it baked it got an well-nigh dry, 'curdled' similar texture that I wasn't a fan of. I volition just serve it at the table to dollop on tiptop as I dearest dour cream and like the way the coolness of it offsets spicier Mexican dishes, but this usa just my preference. What a great, like shooting fish in a barrel goulash...Thanks so much for it!!! :)
04/17/2012
I love this! Added 1T of taco seasoning every bit others did, also added a can of Rotel with salsa and simmered long enough to thicken up before blistering. Omitted olives. Was going to freeze some, only too good-never made it to freezer. Good leftovers to take to work. Definitely in my top 5 on this site. Thank u!
10/02/2010
I'thousand gonna try this and use soft tortillas to build the layers with.
eleven/15/2010
My family really liked this i! Like shooting fish in a barrel and skillful.
04/16/2012
Smashing recipe!!!!!!!!!!!!! The just big aligning I made was using evidently greek yogurt (Oikos, 1 one/2 cups) instead of the sour cream -- also cuts the calories past 200, and the fatty grams past around 40g!! I likewise used 1 cup of shredded cheddar, which I felt similar was plenty, and canned diced tomatoes (since I didn't have fresh!) My husband loved loved loved this dish!
06/10/2011
I made this as is the offset time. Thought it was a bit bland. Next fourth dimension used taco seasoning, garlic powder, and added some rotel (drained). I also used Mexican blend cheese. The first time I made this it was a chip soggy, and then I made the tortilla layer a little thicker and cutting back on the sour cream. Easy dish to brand and a family favorite at my firm. I serve with Mexican rice and a Mexican salad.
04/18/2012
This recipe is similar to one my family unit has enjoyed for years...Mexican Lasagna. The ingredients are virtually the same but instead of tortilla fries, flat flour tortillas (6) are halved. Put the showtime 6 halves on the bottom of the dish, followed past one-half the beefiness mixture and cheese so another layer of the remaining tortilla halves. The residual of the beef mixture and cheese tops information technology off.
12/fourteen/2011
We enjoyed this and will exist making it once again. I think side by side time I volition crush tortilla fries and put thm on pinnacle once the casserole is out of the oven to requite it some "crisis".
09/15/2010
This was a very easy recipe to make, and it was very open to adaptation. I did not have dark-green onions, so I substituted red and white onions. I did not accept tortilla chips, simply I had plenty of corn tortillas, and I only made my own. In addition to layering them on the lesser, I besides topped the casserole with extra crushed chips later on cooking. This really helped because the fries at the lesser of the casserole got soggy. Canned tomatoes (I used some with chiles mixed in) piece of work cracking in place of the fresh tomatoes. It but took about 10 minutes to cook, every bit opposed to the 30 stated in the recipe. This recipe became an instant favorite in our household. We will definitely make this casserole once again!
04/11/2012
The family loved this. I did add a package of taco seasoning to the beef and used canned Rotel tomatoes with chili peppers instead of diced tomatoes on pinnacle. They asked to put this one on the regular rotation.
04/19/2012
Afterward reading reviews, I tried this with some changes; Instead of tortilla chips, I used flour tortillas, in 2 layers, similar a lasagna. I cooked the groud beef with garlic, light-green onions and a pack of taco powder, and I added a can of corn and vii-viii slices of finely chopped jalapeno to the recipe. And so I put it together as follows, flour tortillas, 1/2 meat mixture, 1/two sour cream, ane/2 tomatoes & green onions, repeat layering and top with mexican shredded cheese. Although I love black olives, next time I'll leave them out of this recipe.
05/03/2012
Doubled the recipe for a pot luck at work and information technology was a huge hit!!!! Everyone wanted the recipe. Made the following changes to the original recipe for 6: added can of chopped chilies, little garlic and Taco Seasoning Mix to the meat mixture. Really cooked the liquid out of the meat (longer than 20 minutes at a lower temp). Lightly smashed the taco chips in the purse so there were some larger pieces........did not turn out soggy at all. Information technology was wonderful. Making it again this weekend for the family unit.
04/18/2012
Fabled dish! Then piece of cake too. I used ground turkey meat and low fat sour cream to make it less caloric. Worked fine. Also used tuckered canned tomatoes cuz I didn't have fresh. Used black beans in the cooked turkey meat. Also added onions and chili seasoning to the meat as many reveiwers suggested. My husband couldn't get over how delicios this was and asked for it to be in the regular (frequent) rotation.
03/06/2013
My married man declared it a keeper. I loved being able to use upwardly the tortilla fleck crumbs in the bottom of the bag instead of tossing them out. Used turkey sausage instead of footing beef, and 2 cups of left over refried beans. Fabuloso!
02/02/2012
Love information technology! My family actually fought over the leftover portions! Teens pleading that it be fabricated again. I phone call that a winner! The key to non-soggy chips is draining the mixture and ridding it of excess moisture! :o)
05/08/2014
Doubled it for a family gathering on Cinco de Mayo and everyone wanted the recipe--even the toddlers ate it and asked for more. In fairness, I gave the original recipe five stars fifty-fifty though, based on prior reviews, I contradistinct while doubling: added chopped onion, garlic, table salt & pepper when browning meat; added a pkg of OLP Taco Seasoning(utilise half a pkg or less if not doubling); used a tin can each of black beans AND kidney beans (use one tin if not doubling); added a can of GG Mexicorn; put crushed tortilla chips on the bottom AND summit; used sparse layer of sour cream and served the rest on the side; served black olives on the side instead of putting in the casserole (wasn't sure if everyone liked them); served salsa and guacamole on the side. I used T*** Original chips and they didn't become soggy, but I think that may be because I used a thick jarred salsa that didn't produce a lot of liquid in the meat mixture. If using a fresh watery salsa, you will need to melt down or drain off excess liquid from the meat mixture before assembling casserole. Don't omit the light-green onions or chopped tomatoes--they are key to the taste and texture. Over again, I suspect the recipe is worth v stars every bit is for those who are looking for a balmy goulash, only information technology can easily be altered for those looking for even more than flavor. This is an like shooting fish in a barrel, favorful dish perfect for a small family dinner or adapting for a big gathering. Definitely a keeper!
10/02/2010
We made this exactly as the recipe stated and it was wonderful .. I read the reviews showtime and saw the changes just decided to go with the original before I messed with it..the salsa added the perfect seasoning I didn't experience it needed anythings else.. thank you for sharing it.. BrindaB
02/02/2012
So piece of cake and delicious. I fabricated it using veggie ground round and black beans. I besides didn't have quite enough sour cream, just information technology nonetheless turned out neat.
07/xix/2011
This is a wonderful, basic recipe that tin be adjusted to adapt your individual tastes and what you have on hand. Made as written, it is easy & tasty, though a bit bland. The second time I made it, I added 2T taco seasoning (from this site), 1/2 c. each of chopped light-green pepper & onion, and 1 large, minced garlic clove when browning the meat. I only had refried beans, so crossed my fingers & added them in identify of the chili beans. I also only had 1c. sour cream, and so mixed information technology with 1c. of mayonaise and crossed some more fingers! Information technology came out astonishing! Information technology needed to sit down most 20 minutes before serving to soak upward the liquid, but it was Really good! Even amend the next mean solar day. My developed son had ii helpings for breakfast. (I am NOT that brave.) Though I probably don't desire to know the nutritionals for the adaptation, I accept moved the recipe to my favorites box. Thanks, ANDREALF63!
04/18/2012
I was looking for some easy Mexican dinner, then I read the ingredients... Mexicans didn't use chili beans, sour cream, blackness olives or cheddar cheese on their original recipes. Sad.
01/29/2012
Yum. This was a large striking at my potluck. It was the offset main dish that was GONE. I doubled the recipe.... Fabricated a HUGE pan and another smaller one for my family. I added chopped onions to the ground beef.... And used some doritos mixed in with the regular tortilla chips. Absolutely delicious. My unabridged family unit wants me to make this once again.
04/15/2010
You tin can too skip the oven and make this into an fifty-fifty easier and faster meal. Fix the meat, put the chips, sour foam, olives, green onion, tomato, and cheddar cheese out on the counter and permit everyone fix their ain nacho supremes.
04/eleven/2012
I made a similar casserole years and years ago - I e'er put the chips on height then sprinkled the cheese over the chips - I didn't crush the chips either (optional) - when you do it this way the chips turn out crispy not soggy! I'm giving the recipe 5 stars fifty-fifty before making it considering this recipe is virtually the same as mine (except for the sour foam & blackness olives & I just used dark kidney beans but the concept is the aforementioned) and when I made it my kids and husband loved information technology!
06/12/2011
This was o.k., but needs some tweaking. It was kind of dry and the sour foam baked into a weird texture. I may make it again and attempt adding some enchilada sauce to make it a little saucier, and may effort substituting cottage cheese for the sour cream and so merely serve it with sour cream since it doesn't broil well.
06/23/2012
OMG! This is good. I made it pretty much to the recipe. I did make a few changes based on some suggestions. I only used 1 cup of salsa, which seemed plenty. I added a tin of corn, and used a can of diced tomatoes with chilis in it. I mixed the vegetables, minus the beans, together like a salad, and spread that over the sour foam. I added some cilantro and lime juice to the veggies for a footling added southwest season. My only problem with the recipe is the chips for the lesser layer. Information technology tasted good, merely they didn't stick together when I spooned it out. Might try some flour tortillas next time.
03/28/2011
My Family LOVED this. This volition exist a frequently prepared family dinner. Even my picky kids gobbled it up. I used whole grain tortilla chips. Even re-heated information technology was excellent! No changes necessary. Very easy, too!
02/18/2013
I loved this dish. Followed suggestions about taco seasoning (I added near 1/3 packet), Rotel canned tomatoes (I used the ones with added mild chilis), less chips (1 ane/2 cup is plenty), and packaged Mexican blend shredded cheese. I do think it is very important what kind of salsa yous select. I used Santa Barbara Mango Peach Salsa by Sabra--in the refrigerated department of the supermarket. Lovely fruity flavor with just a pinch of a boot. This dish as described is perfect for those liking a mild version. Practise prepare meat mixture ahead of time and so seasoning can be absorbed and bleed grease from hamburger before mixing.
03/17/2011
Absolutely astonishing! This dish had amazing flavor. I served it with actress tortilla chips on the side which also got gobbled upwards and I took the suggestions of other reviewers and seasoned it with taco seasoning and changed out the chili beans for black beans. Really and truly delicious though! There were leftovers so hopefully tomorrow this dish volition be even more than amazing.
05/19/2006
Great dish. I made this about a month agone and it'due south now in my regular routine. Also nifty to fry up in a skillet with scrambled eggs the next morning... sorta like a gringo's chilaqules.
07/21/2012
Hey, this was pretty tasty! I browned up my basis beef, seasoned with taco pulverization, garlic pulverization and basis chipotle pepper and onion flakes. I've been dealing with a sinus infection so I was as well lazy to do all the layering...put the chips downwardly, topped with beef mixture, tons of cheese, mixed everything else together poured that over the cheese, crushed more chips on height and mounded tons of cheese on that. Nutrition...out the window!! Anyhow..it was then tasty..the old human really like information technology...that's a good thing, cuz there's tons of it left!! One matter, I didn't take fresh tomatoes and then I used i can Rotel and some other tin can of burn roasted tomatoes with green chili. YUM! And TONS of green onions...dearest 'em.
10/18/2011
Super delish. Sauteed chopped onion with the ground turkey, added a fleck of garlic and a bit of taco seasoning. Poured in the jar o salsa. I likewise used rinsed black beans instead of chili beans (since that's what I had on hand) and added in some diced jalapenos from my garden. I probably used about i cup of grated cheese. I layered corn tortillas in the goulash to get in just similar a little Mexican lasagna, and broiled. My family unit gobbled it up so fast that in that location was non a flake of leftovers! We will definitely make this over again. Could try a couple dissimilar types of beans - chili beans, as called for, or refried. Could besides perhaps add a tin can of green chiles, or whatever else tickles your fancy. Very versatile recipe, only like Italian lasagna - the flavors meld together actually well.
09/16/2009
Splendid...only I changed it to 1 cup sour foam and viii oz. cream cheese mixed together instead of 2 cups sour cream! Thank you for sharing.
02/fourteen/2012
This was DELICIOUS! I've made several mexican casseroles before and this is by FAR the all-time! The sour cream and greenish onions is what makes this one stand out far above the others. I as well adjusted this recipe every bit others accept by using a scrap of taco seasoning when browning the ground beefiness (don't use too much, though, or information technology will terminate upwardly too salty) and using drained canned tomatoes. Yum! This made plenty for our family of three, and so I froze the leftovers and defrosted them for lunches and it's even better! Definitely recommend this one!!!
10/02/2010
Very practiced. I used pinto beans and added chili powder and garlic salt.
08/01/2012
I make this for my 94-year-old male parent whenever I visit him, at his asking, & it'due south my fall-dorsum goulash for any occasion that asks for some jolliness. I often substitute chicken breasts for hamburger, black beans for chili beans, & go heavier on olives, green onions & tomatoes. It's a not bad basic recipe to play with!
xi/10/2010
Everyone loved it! I loved information technology because it's a one dish dinner....lot'southward of leftovers and yummy!
12/29/2010
I followed the recipe and it was an easy family meal. Nosotros had salsa and greenish chilies on hand for those who wanted it spicier and those were succulent additions.
09/18/2009
Followed recipe exactly... Information technology was OK - chips got soggy. None of us were a big fan of the overall taste, so probable won't try it again.
09/16/2009
Craven....wow instead of beef...even so use the taco seasoning when y'all cook up your chicken. Perfect for those of you looking for a lighter option...YUMM!
11/12/2008
Yummers! I wasn't sure how this would turn out in terms of both gustatory modality and eye appeal as it was cooking, simply we scooped information technology over lettuce and it fabricated one of the best taco salads I've ever had- the meat actually stayed hot! I took the suggestions of many others and added one/2 packet of taco seasoning to the gr. beef, omitted the gr. onion, chili beans, olives, and love apple. Instead used black beans, green chiles and a can of diced tomatoes. ane to one 1/2 cups of sour cream is enough. Our whole family ate it upward.
03/xviii/2012
Made this for dinner tonight. Was absolutely succulent. Had to make some changes due to personal preferences and what I had on paw. 1) Added taco seasoning per other reviewers, 1/2 chopped bell pepper, i/2 chopped onion and i tbs minced garlic to the meat as it was browning. 2) Stirred in i/2 cup salsa, 1 tin can drained black beans and 1 can diced tomatoes into the meat mixture to simmer 3) Skipped the tomatoes and onions on the top, but put meat mixture on top of the crushed tortilla chips (I used enough to cover the bottom of the pan - didn't mensurate), covered that with sour foam and tossed on the olives. Sprinkled cheese over tiptop and and so sprinkled the cheese liberally with chili powder. Everyone went dorsum for seconds! Volition definitely be making this once again.
09/19/2009
Nosotros admittedly loved this! I likewise used taco seasoning, which I made from this website, Taco Seasoning I. I had no problems with soggy chips just I likewise used Stride thick and chunky salsa that didn't take a lot of juice. The salsa and beefiness mixture did not fifty-fifty have to simmer to long! In fact, the chips were crispy!
02/26/2008
I used unsalted tortilla chips, low fatty sour cream, depression fatty cheddar cheese, and low fat mozzarella cheese. My husband and I concord that taco seasoning should be added to the footing beef. If I brand this again, I volition be adding it!
12/13/2013
wow. notwithstanding puzzled as to why this recipe has and then many adept reviews! I constitute this recipe after looking for something to make with the ground beefiness I had on hand and based on the reviews, I thought this was just what I was looking for...I was And so wrong! Followed recipe merely added taco seasoning as recommended by many reviewers. The chips at the bottom were a soggy mess. The sour cream curdled. It was so bland even with the taco seasoning!

Great recipe, very quick and piece of cake. Adjustable also! I sauteed a chopped onion with the beef, added a bit of fajita seasoning, and when I added the beans I also added a can of tuckered corn. Served information technology with crushed tortilla chips on top. Next time I'll get in with footing turkey and I bet it will be just as skilful!

I seasoned my ground beefiness with taco seasoning. My married man Loved it - I also idea it was good. I have never used crushed tortilla chips in a casserole before.I really did not intendance for that part of it.If I make this again I will skip the tortilla chips.

Sort of similar a King Ranch Goulash with beef. My family unit loved this. I wasn't quite certain about the layering of ingredients, merely it actually turned out quite well. The only thing I might change next time is to save some of the black olives, tomatoes, and green onions to sprinkle on pinnacle of the cheese the last v minutes of baking to have a improve presentation than but a casserole of melted cheese. Like other reviewers, I added taco seasoning to the beef mixture. My simply recommendation is to make sure you make only enough for your family unit to eat in 1 sitting. Our re-heated leftovers for luncheon the next day did non fifty-fifty compare. I am not sure if the chips soaked upwards some of the juices or what happened. But, our leftovers were dry out and crumbly and just not that good. The night before though, right out of the oven, the casserole was delicious!

Add pkg of taco seasoning to beef as it browns

This turned out very good. My husband doesn't like sour foam, but he did like information technology in this dish. Next time all the same, I think I'll skip putting the chips in the bottom, little soggy, and vanquish them in our plates and then put the casserole on height.

THe season in this repast is quite skilful. I had a problem with the crushed chips at the bottom. The recipe calls for cooking all the fluid off the salsa and draining the beans. Then cooking till "bubbly". Well without fluid, mine never bubbled. THe chips on the lesser were a mess. If I do it over again I will exit some fliud in the mixture, maybe add some enchilada sauce. With no liquid the chips accept zippo to soak up.

Thanks for this groovy recipe. I fabricated it for New Years eve at our house with 4 couples. It was a big hit even tho I served the sour cream on the side and mixed refried beans into the hamb mixture instead of kidney beans equally I know 1 of our friends doesn't like them. Our sons say it's a keeper recipe for sure too!! I served the chips on the side equally well. Cheers once again.

This was very adept! I used refried beans instead of kidney beans and I poured about 1/2 of a can of Mild Enchilada sause over the acme. I also used taco seasoning in the meat. This was simply neat and I will melt information technology again shortly. Brand sure the chips are completely covered in meat and cheese or they tend to become dried.

it was good, only wasn't crazy nearly the crushed tortilla chips on lesser. I recollect it would have been better layers with the chips.

My picky family loved this dish. - 1 proposition, don't scatter too many fries on the bottom of the dish. Scatter some of the fries throughout the hamburger mixture. In my dish, they were a little besides clumpy on the bottom. BUT, the dish was delicious only the aforementioned. -

This is non good. I read almost all the reviews and changed it according to suggestions, the chips on the bottom were the worse function.

I altered this meal to make information technology lower in fat by using fat gratuitous cheddar cheese and omitting the sour cream. I served information technology with xanthous corn on the side. Very practiced, very fast!
02/27/2011
I fabricated this recipe equally written. I did not care for it. It was a fleck expensive to brand and the flavors did not blend. It might exist ameliorate with alterations as others accept reviewed and rated high but as written I will not make once again.

This was really easy and pretty good. The only reason it received iv stars from me, is that my kids and myself were not crazy with the sour foam. It just had a weird texture after being baked. I recollect side by side fourth dimension I will just serve it on the side. Other so that it was fantastic!
02/09/2012
I use this warm casserole as a nacho chip dip.

This recipe doesn't pretend to be annihilation it isn't. If you look at the ingredients, you know what you'll go! It could utilise a piddling more oomph to it, as many accept stated. It is a good identify for new cooks with younger children to kickoff their cooking experience. For others, it'southward a good starting identify.

OMG - love this recipe! Very versitile. You lot don't need to use the verbal ingredients for information technology to exist delicious. I healthified it by using soft corn tortillas instead of tortilla chip, footing turkey instead of beef, plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream and low fat cheese. I added another layer of corn tortillas before putting the cheese on. I will brand this recipe again and again. The whole family unit loved it!

This recipe is fantastic every bit is!! Withal, I wanted to arrive somewhat healthier with the post-obit modifications: 1.) I used ground turkey. I cooked the turkey then added a taco season packet and cooked per packet directions. 2.) Instead of sour cream, I used fat gratis greek yogurt. I didn't have a full two cups, so I added some fat free cream cheese. I whipped the yogurt, cream cheese, and some jalapeno slices together....fantastic! It gave that layer and then much flavor!! 3.) I also used black beans, rotel with green chilies, and fatty-complimentary cheese!! iv.) Finally, I baked my own corn tortilla chips. And so good, I am full but desire to keep eating!
08/03/2012
This was a dandy dish! I followed the recipe exactly with a few additions. I added taco seasoning to beef and cilantro to the sour foam. I added some frozen corn to the beef and beans besides. Lastly, I chopped some actress cilantro, green onion and tomato plant as garnish along with some avacado...I would definately recommend calculation a lilliputian avacado equally garnish! Will make again!!

This was very like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious to boot! It made way too much, so I would cut the recipe in half and employ a smaller pan. Serving size said for vi, merely it is more than like for eight. And in that location's just iii of usa!
04/23/2011
Fantastic. So good, thanks for sharing!
08/03/2011
Good and easy to whip up. My hubby likes to brand this and add different toppings to his liking. He changes it up evertime but the basic recipe is very good too.
08/03/2004
This was so easy and delicious! I did alter information technology up a scrap by adding one can of chopped green chilies, 1 cup salsa, one can diced tomatoes with zesty green chilies. I didn't have tortilla fries and so I lined the lesser of the 9X13 with flour soft taco shells, and so did a thin layer of meat, topped with some shredded taco cheese, so some other layer of the flour tortilla shells, another thin layer of the meat and the rest of the shredded cheese, then baked it for about 20-25 minutes. I used the sour cream on the side. It was awesome and now I take some leftovers for lunch!! Thanks for the recipe!

I love this recipe simply am on weight watchers and so I dont add the sour cream into the mix. I use very lean beef and add canned tomatoes w/mexican way herbs, canned black beans, corn, salsa, enchilada sauce, diced & canned green chilies. Let the beef and tomato mixure simmer for about xv min. Use corn tortillas. Layer everything and top with light cheddar. Add light our cream at the end : )

This was pretty good. It is super economical. For health reasons, I will probably non use chips once more on the lesser, maybe some high fiber tortillas instead. Nosotros skipped the blackness olives. Overall, nosotros idea it was quite good and it made actually expert leftovers.
